Dr. Larry Peterson (professor emeritus, University of Guelph) will be our speaker for the Forum on Friday April 10 at 7:30 in the Chapel. His topic will be "The Fascinating Biology of Orchids". This promises to be an interesting talk for anyone who loves flowers or gardening. Larry will utilize his background in plant biology to introduce us to little known facts about the plants that we call orchids. Feel free to bring family or friends to the presentation which will include slides and information to delight all. There is no admission.
Larry Peterson and Carol Peterson recently published a book for the general public “When is a ‘Flower’ not a Flower? and other intriguing questions about plants.” Their book will be available to sign and sell. What botanists Larry and Carol Peterson have done in this book is to take common observations of plants and present scientific explanations in a way that non-specialists can understand.
130 pages with photos and in a question and answer format.
Cost is $25 if you wish to purchase it at the door.
The committee has also made plans for a continued program starting in the winter months of 2015. Oct. Nov. Jan. Feb. Mar. and April will feature talks on varied subjects to inform and interest residents in the dull winter months. We will all be taking part in this effort and still would welcome residents who can make suggestions for speakers and and also would welcome active members who will take responsibility for arrangements. A resident committee is a volunteer task that needs input from the residents who can help. Please contact the Front Desk to talk with any committee member to offer suggestions or help.
