February was a shorter month, but we filled it with a lot of fun activities, including some new offerings. We celebrated Black History Month with the vibrant sounds of a steel drum band while enjoying tasty Jamaican patties. As a special treat, we were given the opportunity to taste the national dish of Jamaica, Ackee and Salt Fish with Fried Dumplings, prepared by our own team member.

We welcomed back German-speaking students for our conversation group in a new format, Sprechzeit: German Conversations Across Generations. We started an Audio Book group as a fun way to discover new books, connect with neighbours and share thoughts on exciting stories. We are looking for suggestions from you on which book to choose next!
Our new Armchair Travel series is a delightful way to explore new places and cultures in the comfort of our chairs. This month we explored Ethiopia as we enjoyed some pour-over coffee. On the Memory Care floor, armchair travel includes popcorn and this month we explored Paris and Jamaica.
We travelled back in time at our Vintage Soda Valentine with a rockin’ playlist, ice cream floats, poodle skirts, retro trivia and selection of fun door prizes. On the Memory Care floor, we made some delicious chocolate covered strawberries to continue the celebrations.

Our trip to Royal Botanical Gardens was a delight as we ventured through the floral world of Alice in Wonderland and took in the sights and smells of beautiful floral designs.

We learned a lot from our very own resident, Michele Daviau, Professor of Archaeology from Wilfrid Laurier University as she took us through a 14-season journey of excavation and the discovery of a little town in central Jordan with fortification, houses, factories and a temple, all rich in artifacts and pottery dated from 750-600 BC as part of our Did You Know? series. We’re looking forward to other presentations from our residents in the coming months.
