As we look to December, the Wellness team would like to share some highlights from events in November.
We were fortunate to host a Dementia Information Session with a local interdisciplinary healthcare team experienced in dementia care which included Dr. Linda Lee (a pioneer of the MINT memory clinics) a Registered Practical Nurse, Occupational Therapist and a Clinical Pharmacist. Plum Tree Memory Care is a new resource in the region we can offer residents and their families looking for support and education in dementia care.
Our Fitness for Your Aging Brain classes continued into November with many residents joining each class. We are happy to continue this class again in the upcoming year!
This month we wrapped up our workshop on Transitions: A Journey of Transformation through Loss, Grief and Mourning presented by the Laurier Association for Lifelong Learning (Wilfrid Laurier University). We are continuing to work with the Instructor, Martina Steiger, in developing programming at Luther Village to support residents on their journey through grief.
Our community came together on Remembrance Day to share in this important day of remembrance as we honoured those who sacrificed their health and lives to ensure our freedom and thank our veterans for their dedicated service to our country.
It was a festive atmosphere at our Winter Vendor Market with over 20 vendors offering their unique goods and products for purchase including baking, clothing, footwear, jewelry, crafts and more!
We hosted a Community Meet n’ Greet where we welcomed new residents into our community and shared staff introductions, good conversations, laughs and snacks. This will be a quarterly event moving forward.
This past week we were fortunate to hear our own staff (Food Services), Ella Nafziger, as she delighted us with beautiful renditions of timeless music on piano (Thank you Ella!). Ella’s mom was also in the audience and performed a couple of songs as well! Luckily, Ella confirmed she will play for us again in the future.
