Our focus in February was on Black History Month, Heart Health, and Valentine’s Day. We had wonderful and informative conversations on Building Heart Strength with Wellness Coordinator, Joy Hancock, followed by the viewing of The Healing Power of Love & Intimacy TED Talk, and a presentation on Black Resistance with guest speaker Umi Mohammed, Lutherwood’s Equity Leader.

Many residents celebrated Valentine’s Day by either purchasing flowers in the Atrium from Sue at Ubgreen, attending our special food service event in Martin’s Restaurant, or enjoying the Valentine’s social in the MC lounge.

We enjoyed several entertainers throughout the month including Cameron Grant on guitar, Fireside Voices Choir, Magician Peter Mennie, Red Maple Music Multicultural Performance, King Street Brass Band, Les Picard, Mel Kitchen, Sheryl Walsh, and A Record Day Combo.

We have added a wonderful service through a new volunteer, Doreen, who likes to sew/mend/hem. Residents can sign up to have their clothing altered or repaired and returned the following week. Doreen also runs a quilting group for residents in our Muskoka Lounge!

  • Italian Night

Community Support Connections returned for their monthly Falls Prevention Series sessions with this month’s subject, Chronic Illnesses, which has a solid resident turnout each month.

Our Memory Care residents also enjoyed their weekly pet therapy visits with Jill and pooch, Star, relaxing in the lounge watching their favourite sports teams play on weekend nights, and especially, this year’s Superbowl. Residents and staff from Memory Care, Sunshine Centre, and Life Lease explored the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory and reminded us that Spring is just around the corner!
