Our focus for January was Mental Health and Wellbeing, as well as celebrating the Lunar Year, Robbie Burns Day and recognizing Alzheimer’s Awareness Day. We started the month off with a discussion on Anxiety Coping Tools, we welcomed back Andrea from Ebb and Flow to show us strategies for wellbeing through breathwork, and our footcare nurse from Kaye’s Footcare showed us how to care for our feet. Our residents on the Memory Care floor enjoyed virtual and live musical entertainment throughout the month, music and manicures, creating cranberry and popcorn birdfeeders and a focus on winter memories as part of the Reminiscing Group.
We switched up the treat cart one afternoon to include a sundae station to sweeten our day and enjoyed pancakes and lattes as a sweet morning treat later in the week. Banana splits were also a big hit! To finish the month off, we invited five special companions from National Service Dogs to join us for a Pet-a-Pooch morning, where we all left just a little more relaxed than when we arrived that day. We’re excited that National Service Dogs will be joining us more regularly moving forward!
We’re happy to continue helping our residents stay fit and healthy with our second session of Fitness For Your Aging Brain classes which resumed in January with yet another wonderful turnout! We’re looking forward to adding on SMART classes with Community Support Connections starting this month.
